Considering our needs
Unfortunately for all of us living in our future home, it was mostly designed by me....a pharmacist, so we will see how it goes, but I did multiple iterations over years and then took it to builders, designers, architect and engineer. I am fairly confident it will meet our needs.
Here is how we got where we are and will be.
- We wrote down specific needs for each family member.
- We thought about current state and future state.
- We measured our bodies.
- We measured our current space.
- I found a plan I liked and modified it.
- I mocked up the plans in a semi-user friendly AutoCAD program and added current furniture to scale.
- We drew out traffic patterns in the space.
- We scaled back as much as we could for budget.
- We designed for our taste not current fads and what others preferred.
- I made a Pinterest Board and One Note Notebook for organization
Main objectives:
- Age in Place/ADA-ish/accessible
- Folk Victorian style
- More closed than open layout
- Plenty of storage
- Made sense on the lot
- Space for our hobbies
- Comfortable for another pandemic/work from home
